The Spanish and Italian EU representations are having a not-so-minor meltdown right now.
I think the minister has been somewhat too optimistic in his messages, as a break-through is not what the press release issued by the Belgian Presidency says:
http://www.consilium.europa.eu/uedocs/cms_data/docs/pressdata/en/intm/118426.pdf
Well, that press release reveals that a number of states have adhered to the "enhanced cooperation" (23 or 24, according to press reports), and that the Commission is going to present its proposal Tuesday 14.
Compared with the byzantine discussions this far, this is quite a breakthrough indeed.
Great. The international language of science, patents, litigation and legal process is now English... *and German, and French*.
Lovely, translating file inspections and prosecution history from French or German should not be cheap. What a crazy agreement. Please let's all just use English. I know, I forget all that people in Munich, who can only speak German...
"Lovely, translating file inspections and prosecution history from French or German should not be cheap."
About as cheap as it is now, I guess? The EU is simply maintaining the current EPO examination procedure, but doing away with the whole national validation and maintenance drudgery. When I read such comments, it becomes blindingly obvious that they come from people totally unfamiliar with current European practice. |
