Mr. Florian Müller has suggested that the Open Source Community should steer clear of anti-IP positioning:
"[...]AMMAN - In a statement to ag-IP-news on Saturday, Florian Mueller - a leading figure in the European anti-software patent movement- conceded: "I am generally pro-IP because I've been living off IPRs (Intellectual Property Rights) for years and (am) just against software patents." [...]"
Well, I am not quite sure how to assess the scope of this statement ...
Florian Müller has previously expressed concern that the fight against software patents gets hijacked by anti-IP zealots. I think his statement is just an attempt to clarify that his grieveance is only with software patents. He is not against IP in general. He may have been commenting on Linus' right to protect the Linux(tm) trademark.
IP is a term that regroups several kind of laws (copyright, patents, trademarks, ...), and it has been very easy for the pro-software patent lobby to put the anti-swpat guys in one box called "anti-IP".
It's funny because the meaning is obvious to anyone but you.
Mr Muller is just pointing out that as the bulk of opponents to software patents, he has been making a living off copyrights on software. Hence he fully understand the importance of copyrights and he is not some rabid anti-I.P. contrary to the strawman argument many software patents proponents are making.
If that was not obvsious to you, it's because you believed this strawman argument.
